More Than a Rescue.
We Are Their Second Chance.
Every kitten that passes through our doors carries a story of resilience. We carry the responsibility of writing the next, better chapter.
A Single Act of Compassion That Became a Movement
It began with one kitten found shivering behind a dumpster on a cold November night. Our founder, Sarah, took her home — and within weeks, word spread that there was someone willing to help. Calls started coming in. More kittens. More need.
What started as one person with a spare bedroom and a warm heart quickly grew into an organized rescue network. By 2018, we had our first team of foster volunteers. By 2020, we had facilitated over 300 successful adoptions. Today, Happy Kitten Rescue is a trusted name across North Carolina and beyond, with a nationwide transport network and families in over 30 states.
We saw firsthand how many kittens were abandoned, orphaned, or surrendered without anywhere safe to go. Shelters were overwhelmed. Kittens — especially neonates — were the most vulnerable and the least likely to survive without dedicated one-on-one care. We knew something had to change. So we changed it.
Our Mission & Core Values
Every decision we make is guided by a simple principle: the kitten comes first. Here's what that looks like in practice.
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and responsibly rehome kittens in need — while building a community of compassionate adopters, fosters, and supporters who believe every animal deserves a loving start. We operate with full transparency, genuine care, and an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of every kitten in our care.
Rescue First
We don't wait for perfect conditions. When a kitten needs help, we act — whether that's an emergency intake at 2am or a cross-state transport coordination. Saving lives is always the priority.
Compassion in Every Step
From the moment a kitten enters our care to the day they're placed in a forever home, every interaction is guided by patience, kindness, and genuine empathy — for both the animals and the humans involved.
Responsible Adoption
We take matching seriously. We review applications carefully, conduct interviews, and consider temperament, lifestyle, and household dynamics before approving any adoption. The right home matters.
Health & Safety Always
Every kitten is fully vetted before adoption — vaccinated, dewormed, flea-treated, microchipped, and examined by a licensed veterinarian. Older kittens are also spayed or neutered. You receive complete medical records.
Community & Connection
We believe rescue is stronger together. We invest in our foster network, support local shelters, and build lasting relationships with adopters who become lifelong advocates for animal welfare.
Lifelong Relationship
Adoption is just the beginning. We do follow-up check-ins, welcome updates and photos, and remain a resource for our adopter families for the life of the cat. You're part of our family now too.
How We Operate Every Single Day
Happy Kitten Rescue is powered almost entirely by volunteers and foster families. There is no central shelter — instead, every kitten lives in a real home, socialized and loved from their first day with us.
When a kitten comes into our care — whether through a rescue call, a surrender, or a transfer from an overwhelmed shelter — they are immediately placed with a trained foster family. Foster families provide feeding, socialization, basic medical care, and all the warmth of a real home environment.
Our coordination team manages incoming inquiries, adoption applications, vet appointments, transport logistics, and adopter communications. We partner with licensed veterinarians across the region and a certified transport network for nationwide placements.
Every step is documented, every kitten is tracked, and every adoption is followed up. We don't let anything fall through the cracks — because these little lives depend on our consistency.

Want to Join Our Team?
We are always looking for compassionate foster families, volunteers, and transport coordinators. No experience necessary — just a love for cats and a willingness to help.
Our Commitment to Transparency & Trust
We believe that trust is the foundation of every successful adoption — and trust is built through honesty. We are open about every part of our process, from costs and timelines to what adopters can expect before, during, and after bringing their kitten home.
Adoption fees are clearly communicated upfront and reflect the real cost of veterinary care, transport logistics, and rescue operations. We are a small rescue, not a business — every dollar goes back to the animals.
If a kitten is reserved but pickup or delivery is delayed, a $100 reservation fee ensures the kitten is properly held and continues to receive care in the interim. This protects both the kitten and the adopter.
We are always available to answer questions, provide health updates, and share photos throughout the adoption journey. We never pressure, rush, or hide. If something changes, we communicate it — every time.
Adoption Fees
Fees typically range from $150–$200 and cover full veterinary care, vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter for eligible kittens. All costs are shared before any commitment is made.
Transport Costs
Nationwide certified transport is available for $150–$400 depending on distance. Local pickup is always free by appointment at our Charlotte, NC location.
Reservation Fee
A $100 reservation fee holds your kitten when pickup or delivery needs to be scheduled beyond the standard window. This fee is applied toward your total adoption cost.
Return Policy
We always take our kittens back — no questions, no judgment. If life changes and you can no longer care for your adopted kitten, we will arrange their safe return to our foster network.
