Become a
Foster Family
Fostering a kitten is one of the most impactful things you can do for animal welfare โ and you do not need to be an expert. You just need a warm home, a little time, and a big heart. We handle everything else.
A Temporary Home
That Makes a Permanent Difference
Foster carers provide a safe, loving home for rescued kittens while they wait to be adopted. This can be anywhere from two weeks to a few months depending on the kitten's age, health, and how quickly a match is found.
Unlike adoption, fostering is temporary โ but its impact is permanent. The socialisation, love, and stability you give a kitten during their earliest weeks shapes who they become for the rest of their lives. You are not just keeping them safe. You are building their personality.
And if you fall completely in love and cannot bear to let them go? We call that a "foster fail" โ and we consider it an absolute success. ๐งก

What You Get Out of Fostering
Fostering is not just good for kittens. Our foster families consistently tell us it is one of the most rewarding things they have ever done.
Kitten Cuddles on Demand
Enjoy all the joy of living with a kitten without the decades-long commitment of full ownership. Perfect if you love animals but travel frequently or are not ready for a permanent pet.
Zero Financial Burden
Every vet bill, every bag of food, every toy and litter tray is paid for by us. You never pay out of pocket for anything related to your foster kitten's care.
Full Support Network
You are never on your own. Our team is reachable 7 days a week for advice, and our foster community WhatsApp group is full of experienced fosters ready to help with any question.
Training & Resources
All new fosters receive a comprehensive welcome guide covering feeding, health monitoring, socialisation, and what to do in an emergency. No experience necessary to start.
Vet Care, Fully Handled
We have a network of partner vets who work with our fosters directly. Appointments are arranged and paid for by us. You just bring the kitten.
Real, Measurable Impact
Every kitten you foster is one that did not end up in an overcrowded shelter. You can see directly โ in that little face โ exactly what your time and love has accomplished.
Find the Right Fit for Your Life
We offer different foster roles depending on your availability, experience, and home situation. There is a place for everyone in our programme.
Bottle Baby Foster
Neonatal kittens under four weeks old who cannot yet feed themselves. They require feeding every 2โ4 hours and round-the-clock warmth and stimulation. This is our most demanding foster role โ and the one our fosters say changes them the most. Previous animal experience helpful but not required โ full training provided.
- โ Available for frequent feedings
- โ Able to work from home or have flexible hours
- โ Comfortable following a strict feeding schedule
Standard Foster
Kittens aged 4โ12 weeks who are weaned and eating on their own but still need socialisation, play, and a safe environment before they are ready for adoption. This is our most common foster role and the best entry point for first-time fosters. Typically a 3โ8 week placement depending on adoption speed.
- โ Home for most of the day
- โ Dedicated kitten-safe space available
- โ Able to attend one vet appointment during placement
Medical Foster
Kittens recovering from illness, surgery, or managing a chronic condition like FIV, CH, or mobility limitations. Medical fosters administer medications, monitor recovery, and attend follow-up vet appointments. Full training and written protocols provided for every kitten. Previous experience with special needs animals is helpful but we train motivated beginners too.
- โ Comfortable administering oral medications
- โ Calm and observant in health-monitoring situations
- โ Available for more frequent vet visits
Emergency / Respite Foster
Short-term placements of 48 hours to two weeks for kittens who need urgent temporary housing while a longer-term foster is arranged, or to give an existing foster family a break. Ideal for people with unpredictable schedules who want to contribute when they can rather than commit to a fixed timeline.
- โ Able to take a kitten on short notice (24โ48 hrs)
- โ Available for short placements 1โ3 times per month
- โ Kitten-safe space that can be set up quickly
How Fostering Works
From application to your first kitten, the whole process typically takes less than two weeks.
Fill Out the Application
Tell us about your home, your availability, your experience with animals, and which foster role interests you most. There are no wrong answers โ we use this to match you with the right kitten and the right level of support.
Short Welcome Chat
One of our foster coordinators will reach out for a brief conversation โ usually 20โ30 minutes by phone or video. This is not an interview, just a friendly chat to answer your questions and make sure we match you with the right kitten type.
Home Prep & Welcome Pack
Once approved, we send your Foster Welcome Pack โ a full guide covering setup, feeding, health monitoring, and emergency contacts. We also deliver all the supplies you need before your first kitten arrives. You do not purchase a thing.
Meet Your First Kitten
We arrange a handover with the kitten's intake coordinator who will brief you on the individual kitten's history, health status, personality, and any specific care needs. You will feel completely prepared before you walk through the door together.
Foster, Love & Support
During the placement, our team checks in regularly and is available 7 days a week for any questions. Our foster community WhatsApp group means you always have an experienced voice to consult. You are never alone in this.
Successful Handover or Foster Fail!
When your kitten is matched with an adopter, we coordinate the transition together and brief the new family thoroughly on everything you have learned about the kitten. Or โ if you have fallen completely in love โ you tell us you are keeping them, and we cheer loudly. Either outcome is a win. ๐งก
Stories From Our Fosters
Hear directly from the people who open their homes โ and often their hearts permanently.
Rachel D.
Charlotte, NC ยท Fostering 2 years"I started fostering because I wanted to help but was not ready to adopt. Two years and fourteen kittens later, I have kept two of them and I feel like a completely different person. The support from the rescue is unlike anything I expected โ they are always there, always knowledgeable, always kind. I recommend fostering to literally everyone I meet."
Michael T.
Concord, NC ยท Fostering 1 year"Bottle babies are intense. The 3am feedings are real. But when that tiny creature starts gaining weight, opens its eyes for the first time, and eventually runs and plays โ there is nothing like it. I have fostered six neonatal litters. I would do it a hundred more times. The rescue makes sure you are never guessing. Every question gets an answer within the hour."
Sandra O.
Matthews, NC ยท Fostering 3 years"I travel for work so I could never commit to a long placement. The emergency foster role was perfect for me โ I take kittens when I am home, for one to two weeks at a time. It fits around my life and still lets me contribute meaningfully. I have given temporary homes to over thirty kittens in three years. Each one has been its own little adventure."
Foster FAQs
Everything you need to know before you apply.
No. The majority of our fosters had little or no prior experience with cats when they started. We provide full training, a written guide, and ongoing support throughout every placement. What matters most is that you are patient, observant, and willing to ask questions. We will teach you everything else.
In most cases, yes. We assess each situation individually. If you have dogs or older cats, we typically recommend a gradual introduction protocol and provide full guidance on safe integration. We do ask that you have a separate room available where the foster kitten can be safely isolated during the initial adjustment period โ usually the first five to seven days.
Apartments are absolutely fine for fostering โ in fact, many of our most experienced fosters live in apartments. What matters is that your landlord permits pets (even temporarily) and that you have a dedicated space where the kitten can settle safely. A spare room, bathroom, or sectioned-off area is ideal for the first few days.
This depends on the foster role. Standard placements are typically 3โ8 weeks. Bottle baby placements can be shorter โ sometimes 2โ3 weeks from intake to adoption readiness. We always communicate the expected timeline upfront and keep you updated as it changes. We never remove a kitten without notice or without ensuring you are ready for the transition.
We coordinate the adoption handover together and you will be an important part of the transition. We ask all fosters to write brief notes on the kitten's personality, habits, preferences, and quirks โ these go to the new family as part of the welcome pack and make an enormous difference to the kitten's adjustment. Many fosters stay in touch with adopting families and receive updates and photos. It is a hard goodbye and a happy one at the same time.
We call this a "foster fail" and we consider it a wonderful outcome. If you fall in love and want to adopt your foster kitten permanently, simply let your coordinator know. We will process a standard adoption application and โ assuming all is well โ you keep your kitten. Foster families receive priority consideration and a reduced adoption fee. It happens more often than you might think!
You contact us immediately and we take it from there. We have a 24-hour emergency line for foster carers, a network of partner vets who know our rescue kittens, and clear protocols for every type of health situation. You should never feel alone in an emergency โ that is one of our core commitments to every foster family. All emergency vet costs are fully covered by us.
We primarily work within the Charlotte, NC area and surrounding communities where our transport network can reach. If you are outside this area, please still apply โ we are gradually expanding our foster network and may be able to connect you with a partner rescue in your region. We never want to turn away a willing heart without exploring all options first.
